Wayne G. Estell

Wayne Gerald Estell, 79, of Mansfield, CT died on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Hartford Hospital.  Wayne was born in Hartford, CT and was the son of the late Charles W. and Rebecca F. (Jacobson) Estell.

Wayne served in the United States Army from   1956 to 1964.  He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed biking through New England and Canada.  Early retirement from the University of Connecticut gave him the chance to fulfill the dream of bicycling across the country which he accomplished solo in 1992, and again in 1995 with his wife Cathy.   Wayne spent 4 weeks in Germany with long- time friend, the late Donald Root and they biked in Berlin, Austria, Denmark and Holland and came back with many stories.

He touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and ability to tell a great joke or story.  He loved classic country music, the outdoors, adventures in travel and QVC.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cathy (Saltonstall) Estell; daughter, Holly and her husband Karl Knipper of North Windham, CT; two sons, Alan and his wife Joan Estell of South Windham, CT, David and his wife Justine Estell of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Roberto Rios, Jr., Vincent Rios, Emma Livsley, Ashley Estell and great grandson Cooper Estell;  two Step-sons, Charlie and Kim Gagne of Ashford, CT and Chris Gagne and Joleen Kaiser of Tucson, AZ; brother, Charles (Chuck) Estell of North Fort Myers, FL; sister-in-laws, Ann Estell, Charlene Saltonstall Armitage; brother-in-law, Craig Saltonstall and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand- nephews.

 Wayne was predeceased by his brother, Dewey Estell and sisters, Thelma Thompson and June Janik.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family
