Evelyn P. Matsas

Evelyn P. Matsas, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and friend died peacefully at home on July 19, 2018 surrounded by her family that she so loved. She resided in Storrs, CT and previously resided in Windham, CT for over 40 years. Evelyn was born on June 3, 1930 in Naugatuck CT, daughter of the late Peter and Georgia Lakis. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School class of 1948 and a graduate of Post Junior College.  Evelyn met her husband of 61 years, Peter at a Greek Picnic. Her bright blue eyes and energetic personality would lighten up a room. Evelyn’s greatest gift was her loving and nurturing personality.  She loved to cook, do crafts and tend to her family. She helped her husband in their family business, the Ben Franklin Store in East Hampton CT for many years.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Peter Matsas; sons, David Matsas and wife, Jane Toomey of Woodstock, CT and Peter Mark Matsas of East Hartford, CT; daughter, Sharon Loree and husband, Charles of Mansfield; grandchildren, Bridget and Hannah Matsas, Dane Loree and wife, Erica Vaughn; Connor and Alexa Loree; great grandchildren, Olivia and Parker Loree; sisters in law, Dorothy and Carol Matsas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive relatives and friends, Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte.195) Willimantic, CT 06226. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 247 Washington St. Norwich, CT 06360 with Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Club Rd. Willimantic, CT.

The family would like to thank Windham Hospital and Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice Care who showed Evelyn love and compassion.  A special thank you to family member Robyn Frazier who was her devoted caregiver.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 247 Washington St., Norwich, CT 06360 where she was an active member for 45 years.
