Dear Mrs. Romano and family,

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Tony. He was a major influence in my life from his days as my microbiology professor. As a UConn student, his passion for science inspired me to pursue my own lengthy and successful scientific career. Years later I reconnected with Tony at various university functions and he hosted me at UConn to give a seminar to another generation of students. He was a great scientist and educator and an even better person.

Jean, and Family – Our deepest sympathy. He could always be counted on to be welcoming, engaged and interested – and interesting! Tony was a big part of the development of the very strong programs in biology at UConn, and then later, in his role as Dean of CLAS, of promoting all the college programs. And, he served not only as a leader, but also as a promoter – helping move the careers of new faculty along as well. We will all miss Tony too.

I am so sad to learn of Tony's death. He was a very fair, capable and hard working dean. His sense of humor brightened many a discussion. His inherent humility and compassion drew others to him. He will be missed.

Dear Mrs. Romano and Family,
I'm so sorry to hear of Tony's passing. As an immigrant high school student many years ago, Tony and you would open your heart and your home to me and my classmates to provide us a little bit of comfort from missing our families back home. Throughout the years, Tony and you continued to welcome my family and me into your lives. I have always admired Tony for his down to earth ability to make everyone feel at ease. Tony will be remembered as a great man.
I'm keeping Tony, your family and you in my thoughts and prayers.

Jean, I was so sorry to hear of Tony's passing. He was such an accomplished man and yet so down to earth and pleasant to talk with about simple things that I could understand. If I was in the yard, he always took time from his walk to stop and exchange pleasantries. My heartfelt condolences to you and the family.

Jean and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful man. What a wonderful couple.
You both welcomed us with open arms so many years ago as we were deciding whether to come to Connecticut. Tony was instrumental in hiring Ken and he will be forever grateful for giving him this opportunity and bringing him into this wonderful scientific community. We are so privileged to have been able to call you both our friends. We will miss Tony greatly.

Dear Jean and Family,

Kristine and I want to add our voices to the many who are fondly remembering Tony. For us, he has always been an integral part of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, and someone who remains an institution at UCONN for his many contributions to the University. He was always a great source of advice for me, and I will miss that. Our best to you all in this sad time.

Please allow me to offer my condolences to the, Romano family, by sharing a scriptural hope. "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also, he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” - Rev. 21:3-5. This is the hope of the resurrection. I am very sorry for your loss. May God's Word, the Bible comfort the, Romano family and all those who loved, Mr. Antonio.
