Anna Burnham

August 29, 1930 ~ November 19, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Anna (Uusitalo) Burnham, 88, of North Windham, died at home on November 19, 2018. She was born in Canterbury, August 29, 1930, the daughter of the late Oscar and Ida Uusitalo of Canterbury Plains.

Anna graduated from Griswold High in 1948 and worked on her family’s farm until 1949 when she met the love of her life of 68 years, Herbert Burnham, at the square dances in Mansfield. They married April 8, 1950 and lived at the Burnham Homestead.

They became interested in Suffolk Sheep and showed at many sheep shows in New England and The Big E, along with their daughter Lynn, with Southdowns and niece Joyce, with Dorsets. When the grandchildren got older they also went to the fairs and showed sheep. Anna also judged at many sheep shows and was a life member of the New England Sheep and Wool Growers Association, Connecticut Sheep Breeders, and New England Suffolk Association. She was also a lifelong member of the Finnish American Heritage Society in Canterbury.

She loved gardening, cooking for friends and family, and knitting for donations to the junior sheep shows at The Big E.

Anna leaves her beloved husband, Herbert; a son, Herbert Jr and wife Nancy of West Dover, VT; daughter, Lynn and husband John Aubrey of Apopka, FL; grandsons, Jesse and wife Gina of Ashford, CT, Kevin and wife Alyssa Languth of Hampton, CT; granddaughter, Shannon and Nicolas Emmons of Waltham, MA; great granddaughter, Anna Rose; great grandson, Henry of Ashford, CT; niece, Diane and her husband Michael Kelley of Los Gatos, CA and  grand nephew, Tim Clark and wife Karen of Eastford, CT. At her request there will be no calling hours or services, and her ashes will be scattered on her farm.
