Welcome to the memorial page for

Mildred Jeanne "Gigi" (Gott) Hazen

August 14, 1928 ~ April 5, 2018 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Jean “Gigi” (Gott) Hazen, 89, of Mansfield Center, died peacefully surrounded by her family on the morning of April 4, 2018.  Jean is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 68 years Charles Hazen, her four children Nancy Hazen-Swann, Christie Hazen, Bill Hazen and Susie Sandall. Her fifth child, Chuckie Hazen will be waiting to hold her hand in heaven. She will be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren who referred to her as Gigi, the name eventually used by everyone: Nicki Swann, Lily Swann, Jesse Askew, Jamie Askew, Claire Hamel, Riley Hazen, Emily Sandall, Cleo Hazen and Cecile Hazen and two great grandchildren Lucy Greenswann and Kara Hamel.  Jean was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania where she met her husband and raised her children until 1972 when the family moved to Trumbull, CT. Ten years ago Jean and Chuck moved to Mansfield, CT to be closer to their children and grandchildren, family was everything to Gigi. Jean had her Masters in Education and taught pre-school as well as becoming a beloved tutor at Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, CT. Jean was an extremely charming, beautiful, brilliant and talented woman. However, Gigi will be most remembered as a lovely, magical mother and grandmother. She brought us all the gift of her love of learning, arts, literature, theater and music; she was a gifted pianist and passed her love of music on to the many generations of Hazens. Most importantly, Gigi shaped all our lives with her playful spirit, her endless creativity and imagination, her ability to make everyone feel their own special connection to her.  Heaven will become a more splendid and delightful place as she graces it with her lovely presence.  Gigi’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday April 8, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Elks Club, 198 Pleasant St, Willimantic. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place at 4:00pm.  In lieu of flowers Jean wanted donations sent to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), 120 Wall Street, 29th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
