Kenneth Humphrey

Kenneth E. Humphrey 89, of Windham, formerly of Middletown, died Friday, March 24, 2017 in Willimantic.  He was born February 15, 1928 in Lincklaen, NY, to Douglas and Doris (Marble) Humphrey. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Katharine (Clicquennoi) Humphrey; a daughter, Kristin Benini and her husband James of North Windham; son Kevin Humphrey and his fiancée Carol Pihiel of Middletown; grandson Alexander Benini; sister and brother-in-law Rita and Homer Jackson of Indian Trail, NC; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Humphrey and David Humphrey, and his sisters, Eloise Anderson and Joyce Kane.  Ken graduated from Georgetown (NY) Central School in 1945. He then served in the United States Air Force as a cryptography technician from 1947 to 1951. He received his BS in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland, graduating cum laude in 1955. He went on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Sciences from Wesleyan University in 1972.  Ken was a former member of South Congregational Church, Middletown, and a current member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Windham. He was an avid reader and dedicated blood donor.  Burial will be at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Windham or Windham Center School Library, or to the Nature Conservancy.  For an online memorial guestbook please visit www.potterfuneralhome.com.
