Florence Juliet (Konopka) Bowen

Florence J. (Stella) Bowen (nee Konopka) 87, of Windham passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 after a sudden and unexplained illness. She was a loving, devoted and cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Florence was born July 22, 1930 in Manhattan, NY, the daughter of Joseph and Marcella (Gorniak) Konopka. The family moved to Lebanon, CT where she lived until moving to Windham upon her marriage in 1953. She had resided at her latest residence for the past 60 years. Florence was employed by the Electro Motive Co. from 1946 to 1955, then again from 1972 to 1974. She worked for the UCONN Dining Services from 1974 until her retirement in 1996. A deeply committed, caring and self- sacrificing mother, her greatest pleasure was caring for her children, grandchildren and home.  Florence is survived by two children, her son, John Bowen of Windham and her daughter, Susan Decker also of Windham; grandsons, Jason LaFlamme of Windham and Kyle Decker of Groton; great granddaughter, Mariah LaFlamme of Norwich and a beloved member of our extended family, Ashley Smith of Norwich; sisters, Helen Whitcomb of Lebanon, Katherine Terpilak of Silver Springs, MD; brother, Frank Konopka and his wife June of Lebanon; one niece and five nephews.

Family will receive relatives and friends, Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 5-7pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. A Funeral Service will be Friday, December 01, 2017 at 11am also at Potter Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Windham Center Cemetery.
