Donald C. Postemsky, 65, of Mansfield, CT passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016, at Hartford Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Willimantic, he was the son of the late Michael A. and Sophie (Piontek) Postemsky.
Don had many interests over his lifetime. His love of antiques was always with him – owning his own antique store at one time, scouting for the next purchase, refinishing furniture, making tiger maple furniture and sculpting in both wood and metal. He loved it all! While programming his cell phone would leave him bewildered, he was a master craftsman at creating antique reproductions. He had hundreds of books on antiques, refinishing and artistic styles. One of Don’s favorite quotes, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” (Albert Einstein)
Devotion to his faith was beyond measure. Don was particularly proud any time he was able to share his love of Jesus Christ and have others enjoy acceptance. His religion fed him energy. Don was blessed to have many friends, and we thank you for sharing numerous stories over the past couple of weeks and days.
Don is survived by two sisters; Sally Ritchie and her husband Bradford of Manchester, CT and Lin Parker and her husband Joe and their son Joseph III of Greenville, DE; an Uncle Walter Piontek and many cousins. He also leaves a special friend Susan Mateja and her son Alastair.
The end wasn’t kind to him, but he was a kind and caring soul to the end.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Hartford Hospital for providing compassionate and dedicated care to Don. Don’s family will receive relatives and friends Saturday August 27, 2016 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte.195), Willimantic, with his funeral service begining at 2:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
